Protective Life Corporation, headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, is a life insurance company founded in 1907; with subsidiaries that provide financial services through the production, distribution and administration of a diverse array of insurance and investment products. The Financial Actuarial Department is currently seeking an Analyst II - Finance. This role will assist with the analysis of projections results and creation of financial and actuarial reports across all product lines. This role will also provide support for model development within the Projections team, to support initiatives including Asset Adequacy Testing, Embedded Value and other similar Asset/Liability projections. Modeling will be done using PolySystems and/or Axis software, actuarial software packages used for life and annuity valuation and projections. This role will have interaction with other areas of the company, including ALM team, product development, risk management, corporate planning, accounting and finance. The Analyst II Finance will report to the Actuary, Projections Modeling and Analysis.Responsibilities


  • Support financial reporting requirements of the projection team via advanced analytics and analysis, including:
    • Supporting the growing need for C3 Phase 1 capital analysis related to our projections
    • Support reporting requirements to ceding companies for acquired blocks of business
    • Aggregation and analysis for cross-product modeling initiatives such as CFT, Embedded Value, and capital modeling
    • Developing tools to support analysis of results more effectively, including implementation of new technology like analytics visualization software
    • Assisting with creation of dynamic and static validations of projection models
    • Responding to auditor or examiner questions, regulatory or industry surveys, etc. that require data or analysis at a company or corporate level
    • Supporting other areas of the company when questions arise about actual experience, reinsurance notices, possible acquisitions, etc.Modeling and coding supporting all Asset/Liability models and projection regimes. This includes:
      • Assisting in the implementation and rollout of Cloud computing for use with Projections team Polysystems models
      • Developing repeatable processes to construct model tables used by Polysystems and Axis
      • Developing and maintaining controls and process documentation related to Polysystems and Axis table development and other modeling functionality
      • Producing coding guides for Projection team to assist in the rapid, accurate deployment of quarterly model coding
      • Cross-train on the quarterly asset development process to provide peer review and backup
      • Maintaining detailed, reliable documentation of all processesRequirements/Education
        • Ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of insurance finance, insurance accounting, or actuarial experience.
        • Strong understanding of financial statements.
        • Passion for accuracy and detail, and an excellent work ethic.
        • Experience with PolySystems, SQL, or data visualization software is a plus, but not required. The ability to learn and adapt to these programs is a requirement.
        • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
        • The ability to work flexibly in a team environment, and to interact with other departments and Senior Management.
