Job Description:
Job Summary: Provide technical support to melting and casting
departments, assist in product quality initiatives and manages
product development projects and conducts metallurgical studies and
analyses in support of company product development and quality
assurance activities.
Essential Functions:
Monitor, analyze, and review (through statistical analysis of
process parameters) process / production performance and then plan
and execute enhancements to improve process capability, yield,
alloy recovery, metallic charge cost, cupola performance and
reliability to include auxiliary equipment (e.g. baghouse).
Provides technical support to casting operation.
Performs metallurgical analyses and physical testing associated
with the plant-wide product improvement initiatives.
Manages product and associated process development projects.
Conducts metallurgical analyses and forensic investigations
associated with returned failed products from Customer
Complaints.
Provides procedural instruction to fab shop, welded products, and
product test bay personnel as needed.
Audits subcontractor processes and parts at subcontractor
facilities.
Performs drafting, reviewing, and revising of Company Technical
Documentation.
Performs product and process quality audits.
Performs or supervises the periodic metrological analyses of plant
prepared mechanical test specimens in support of production plants'
conformance to national product testing standards.
Additional Functions:
Reviews developments in the ferrous metals industry related to U.
S. Pipe products.
Skills & Requirements
Scope Data/Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
--- Office, laboratory, and foundry/processing plant work
environments.
--- Lifting of moderate loads, some exposure to heat and industrial
plant environment.
--- Occasional overnight travel required.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Traits:
Requires a BS in Metallurgical or Materials Science Engineering
with 3 to 5 years relevant work experience in ferrous metallurgy,
including ductile iron, steels, and stainless steels, and the
metallographic analysis of these metals. Must be familiar with
various ferrous metal forming industries and related processes such
as heat treating. Also needs familiarity with metrological and
analytical equipment and its operation. Must possess Project
Management skills, effective communication, and technical writing
capabilities. Knowledge of various MS Software Programs needed.
