Job Description - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - FACULTY AFFAIRS, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & ADMINISTRATIVE (T182007) EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - FACULTY AFFAIRS, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & ADMINISTRATIVE - ( T182007 ) To strategically plan, implement, direct and maintain the faculty affairs and professional development activities within the School of Medicine (SOM). To serve as a resource to the SOM Faculty Council, represented departments, centers and/or programs, and to ensure policies, procedures and faculty programs are consistently administered, aligned with organizational goals and are in compliance with professional standards and institutional requirements.-- Primary Resposibilities:

  • Provides administrative support/guidance for the School of Medicine Appointment/Promotion/Tenure Process--
  • Develops--educational content for faculty and administrative leaders on preparing portfolios--
  • Provides strategic guidance and support for the SOM Appointment/Promotion and Tenure Revision Task Force--
  • Responsible for continued evaluation, measure and leverage of best practice technology and processes used for faculty affairs and professional development and champion improvements and changes that will have a direct and positive impact on represented departments
  • Provides overall strategic direction by providing advice and leadership to department chairs and administrators on all matters relating to faculty recruitment, retention, evaluation, promotion, remuneration, contract development, and professional development
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable policies, procedures and external regulations relating to faculty employment, including affirmative action/equal employment opportunity policies
  • Oversees and manages faculty grievances. This involves participation in meetings and committees and preparing documents on behalf of the School of Medicine Dean
  • Manage Faculty Council (FC) appointments, reappointments and elections annually in collaboration with the FC chairs. This requires inviting nominations from Faculty Council members and department chairs not currently represented on the FC and then conducting the elections
  • Serves as the administrative leader in the development of UAB Medicine and UAB faculty and staff engagement surveys--
  • Assists with Dean's Excellence Awards. This involves a faculty-wide call for nominations and a selection process that is led by some of the members of the Dean's Leadership Team. This culminates with an announcement of the awards at a formal event.Oversee and manage other UAB, national and international award applications
  • Oversees and manages External Activities for the School of Medicine. This includes serving as the school level approver for all faculty applications/requests and development of educational materials--
  • Participates--in several task forces for revision of policies for both UAB and UAB Medicine, when applicable
  • Serves on various UAB committees (e.g., produce information for the LCME self-study)--
  • Management and oversight of content for Faculty Resources Website. Periodic review of, and develop new materials as the need arises
  • Coordinates Healthcare Leadership Academy in partnership with the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs
  • Participates in committees and other projects as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned Master's degree in a related field and eight (8) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.-- Preferred Experience:
    • 8-10 years in Human Resources--
    • Operations Development Experience
    • Experience working effectively in a diverse environment --------------------- Preferred Skills:--
      • High level of technical expertise with UAB and UAB Medicine
      • Ability to function with a high degree of independence
