Description
Knowledge management lawyers at Reed Smith are focused on projects
to make the firm's lawyers' lives easier. We are looking for a
knowledge management lawyer who has been a senior litigation lawyer
at a national or substantial regional firm and someone who is keen
to develop what a knowledge management service can achieve in a law
firm. Knowledge management lawyers form part of the dynamic
innovation team at Reed Smith. Our work is a flexible mix of office
and home-working and only involves one day in the office but with
flexibility for more. This role will be based in our Leeds office
(where some of our other KMLs are based). It will involve travel
once a month to our London office for in person training
.

Responsibilities
As well as providing a range of professional support legal services
to the Global Commercial Disputes group in England, this knowledge
management lawyer will work on projects assisting litigators in our
industry groups (for example, shipping and commodities) and will be
heavily involved in helping us complete our new trainee and juniors
training programme for those entering the profession with the SQE
and not an LPC. The candidate will also work out how best to
capture the data within our firm and use it for winning and
streamlining legal work in the future. This role brings with it an
opportunity to learn and to develop new skills. You will need to be
comfortable working with the firm's partners as well as the wider
innovation team. There will be interesting collaborative projects
and the person taking the role will be a natural at sharing their
successes. Good communication skills are going to be vital.
Key responsibilities
Work with the Director of Knowledge Management and also the Global
Commercial Disputes KM partners in London to understand key
requirements to support the group and to a certain extent other UK
litigators and develop a knowledge management strategy for the
group focusing on enhancing the quality of the client work product
and the efficiency of legal service delivery
Work with the Innovation Team including their project and change
managers as well as the firm's litigation lawyers to deliver the
knowledge management strategy with assistance from lawyers in our
industry and overseas offices as needed
Engage with the specialists in the Innovation Team to gain a full
understanding of possible improvements to legal service delivery
and apply that knowledge to the Global Commercial Disputes
Group
Identify and work to implement the agreed efficiencies and working
practices, which may include process mapping and software platforms
for litigation, document automation
Assist with implementing software to maximize knowledge management
for the firm
Work to cultivate the culture of knowledge sharing by the
litigation lawyers
Review, draft and keep up-to-date the know-how precedents and
associated guidance as well as the group's know-how collection for
England and Wales
Assist with expertise regarding appropriate ways to collate and
store precedents/model forms and guidance for the litigation
lawyers in our industry groups
Design, deliver in part, and enable others to assist in delivering
internal training for the UK litigation lawyers in general
commercial litigation, taking into account modern learning
requirements for short and on demand training in addition to
regular in person training
Periodically review existing recorded internal training and augment
and update as necessary
Identify topics of interest in the market and as agreed with the
Global Commercial Disputes KM partner in London, provide support to
any business development initiatives relying on knowledge
management
Key Skills, Attributes and Experience
Senior commercial litigation Lawyer (qualified in England and
Wales) with wide range of experience and including some experience
in training and legal research . A lawyer with some experience in
the following areas is preferred but this is not essential:
international arbitration, financial services, contentious
regulatory or insurance (policyholder disputes).
Strong track record of delivering knowledge management projects on
time and/or other project management and project delivery
expertise
A keen desire to learn and develop new skills
Outgoing with a c lear, concise communication style and excellent
drafting skills
Able to work with minimal supervision
Strong IT skills
Key skills and experience
