Heersink School of Medicine The University of Alabama at Birmingham
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Director of
Development to join the Heersink School of Medicine development
team. Under the direction of the Senior Director of Development for
the Heersink School of Medicine with the Department of Medicine,
the Director of Development will develop and implement strategies
for identifying, cultivating, and successfully soliciting
individuals, corporations, and foundations for major gifts to
support the Heersink School or Medicine educational, research and
patient care programs. A Director of Development for the Department
of Medicine team must be able to design and implement successful
fundraising programs. This position will work with assigned
clinician champions in identifying and qualifying grateful patient
prospects for assigned units within the Heersink School of
Medicine. This position reports to the Senior Director of
Development for the Department of Medicine division within the
Heersink School of Medicine, representing leadership throughout the
Heersink School of Medicine and Office of Advancement. This
position will be an integral member of the school's Office of
Development and UAB Advancement. -Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement programs to inform and cultivate
individuals, corporations and foundations with the capability of
making major gifts to support the areas assigned within the
assigned departments; move solicitation of gifts from these
constituents forward according to readiness.
- Work with physician and medical faculty in devising plans to
cultivate and solicit grateful patients.
- Provide staff assistance to department leadership and other
faculty members in identifying, recruiting, training and motivating
volunteers to assist in the identification and solicitation of
major gift prospects.
- In concert with the Department Chairs and others within the
School of Medicine, manage the planning and execution of
appropriate cultivation and stewardship events, including planning
and hosting visits by donors and their representatives to
appropriate departmental, program and School functions.
- Work with others within the University Advancement office to
assure that potential gift prospects - individuals, organizations
and foundations - are properly researched and assigned, that all
solicitations are coordinated and completed and that donors receive
appropriate acknowledgements and recognition. Annual Salary Range:
$63,875 - $80,000 Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public
Relations, Business or related field
- 5 years of fundraising or equivalent experience
- 2 years of major gift fundraising experience
- Work experience may not substitute for education
requirement
- After-hours work and travel required Preferred Additional
Qualifications:
- Higher education or health care experience
- Microsoft Suite
- CRM
