Job Description:
Description The Defense Sector within the Leidos Corporation has
an opening for a Director of Systems Engineering.The Sector
Director of Systems Engineering will create, grow, mentor and
allocate resources within a Systems Engineering organization to
ensure that the team has what is necessary to be successful. Leidos
Defense Systems Engineering operates as a function of overall
Defense Sector Engineering alongside Chief Technology Officers and
Solution Architects to ensure technical discrimination, compelling
and winning technical solutions that are executable at a profit and
coordinated across the broader Leidos enterprise. All positions are
housed within the overarching Leidos Office of Technology.As the
Director of Systems Engineering, the successful candidate will
represent systems engineering needs into the Engineering Support
Function, and will be responsible for all aspects of the SE
engineering discipline and flawless program execution within the
Sector.This position can be supported from either our Reston - VA
Headquarters or Huntsville - AL office. While occasional telework
is allowed, you are expected to work onsite from either location 4
days per week.Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Systems
Engineering Team, and foster a collaborative and innovative work
environment
- Develop and maintain a Sector level Systems Engineering
Management Plan, Development Plan, including identify and track
Standards and metrics
- Define Common Tools and Processes surrounding systems
engineering development, including for specialty Systems
Engineering areas such as Risk Management, Reliability Engineering,
Human Factors Engineering, and Model-Based Systems
Engineering.
- Develop a training strategy for all employees in the systems
engineering discipline
- Management of budgets and distribution of resources
- Approval of SE portion of bids/proposals
- Participate in the definition and implementation of the
long-term engineering strategy aligned to the Sector and Corporate
Technology Strategies, and the ever-evolving set of Sector and
Corporate goals.
- Collaborate with Sector and Business Area Management and
Business Development Leadership to execute our strategies and to
further our business goals.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams, including software
engineering, Hardware and Electrical engineering to ensure seamless
integration of Systems components
- Active participation in the Capture Process to include writing
and reviewing proposal material.
- Develop and mentor engineering staff to include providing
career guidance and professional growth opportunities for high
potential employees
- Support engineering initiatives across the Defense Sector and
the entire Leidos enterprise.These initiatives will focus on
engineering, capability, process, differentiation, technical
solutioning, proposal development, and program execution - all to
further Leidos engineering discrimination and growth goals with
agility, speed, and security.
- Oversee the design, development and testing of Systems ensuring
compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Establish and maintain relationships with external partners,
vendors and subcontractors to support project requirements and
enhance capabilities
- Drive the implementation and adoption of digital engineering
practices, ensure the use of advanced tools and technologies to
enhance system development and integration processes
- Champion model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methodologies,
promote the use of models to capture, analyze and communicate
system requirements, designs and architectures
- Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in
Digital Engineering and MBSE and provide recommendations for
Continuous Improvement
- Advancing how the Systems Engineering industry views Defense
(and Leidos) by actively participating in SE-focused research,
conferences, panels, and other outreach events.
- Develop and implement a closed loop lessons learned process to
drive continuous improvement
- Manage academic outreach activities associated with the SE
disciplineBasic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Systems / Computer Engineering or relevant
technical field and 12+ years of systems engineering
experience.
- 7 years of experience supervising / leading large systems
engineering teams or projects in defense, intelligence, or space
industry.
- People management experience in multiple management styles and
scenarios (Matrix, Functional, Projectized, Composite, etc.)
- Engineering domain experience such as:
- Technical authority to ensure flawless execution on existing
programs,
- Familiar with industry standard tools including
Cameo/MagicDraw, MatLAB, LabView, Solidworks, Ansys, Sparx EA, IBM
Rhapsody, and IBM Rational DOORS.
- Developing, enforcing, and improving engineering policy,
standards, best practices, and management
- Familiarity and use of standard program management tools such
as Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) and Earned Value Management
System (EVMS).
- Strong expertise in digital engineering practices including the
use of advanced tools and methodologies
- In-depth knowledge of model-based systems engineering (MBSE)
methodologies and their application in complex defense projects
with significant experience with languages such as SysML
(preferred), UAF, and/or UML. Preference given to candidates with
OCSMP (Object Management Sector (OMG) Certified System Modeling
Professional) certification - any level, higher is better.
- Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering
complex systems engineering projects on-time and within
budget.
- Experience with policy formation, performance management, and
best practices in the Defense industry.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, along with public
speaking skills.
- Ability to influence and persuade others, as well as handle
difficult negotiations requiring a well-developed sense of
engineering execution.
- Ability to mentor, lead, and promote talent.
- Significant experience supporting capture activities to include
chairing/participating in Gate Reviews, writing specific sections
of proposals, and providing preliminary technical guidance for
solutions.
- US citizenship is required and able to obtain TS/SCI security
clearance and above.Preferred Qualifications:
- Preference given to candidates with an INCOSE CSEP (Certified
Systems Engineering Professional)- or ESEP (Expert Systems
Engineering Professional)- level certification.
- A Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant technology and
engineering field
- Active TS/SCI Security Clearance or higher is preferredOriginal

above.Pay Range:Pay Range $144,300.00 - $260,850.00The Leidos pay
range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a

skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with
market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other
