Leads and directs the provision of pharmaceutical care services and provides administrative leadership enterprise wide for pharmacy and medication management services across the continuum of care. Responsible for maintaining compliance with regulations of state, federal and other licensing and regulatory agencies at all hospital, outpatient pharmacy and other locations of medication management.
Responsibilities: Leads enterprise-wide implementation of all pharmacy programs. Oversees the purchase and operation of technologies used to dispense medications, in addition to optimization of clinical information systems to effectively manage medication use across the continuum of care. Provides administrative direction, overall management, and coordination for all pharmacy services across the system to assure consistency and continuity between programs. Manages costs associated with implementation of new programs or services. Monitors and tracks cost containment/cost avoidance programs and takes action to achieve goals. Directs, coordinates, and implements quality improvement, re-engineering and strategic planning processes to carry out the mission, goals and objectives of the Pharmacy Department across the system. Develops goals and objectives that support quality improvement. Develops and implements appropriate productively management programs for each area of pharmacy practice across the system. Monitors productivity on a monthly basis according to workload units of service. Leads and directs ministry-wide medication management functions in acute, ambulatory, retail, infusion centers, senior/long-term care, home health, population management and SmartHealth program. Is accountable for organizational alignment and implementation of Company short- and long-term strategic, financial and quality goals. Ensures implementation of affinity groups directing ministry-wide medication management initiatives and establishes processes to optimize system-wide coordination between the pharmacy, physician and ministry leaders. Analyzes drug utilization by disease state or DRG, identifies variance in practices and implements evidence based medication utilization to achieve best care outcome and cost effectiveness. Identifies medication access issues and implements national, state, and local patient assistance programs to reduce disparity (e.g. Dispensary of Hope). Leads ministry-wide medication safety improvement initiatives through process improvement initiatives that reduce variation, as appropriate, and enable high-reliability practices. Leads initiatives to advance pharmacy practice transformation across the market. Ensures a system approach to supply chain management and pharmacy across all Company Health entities (hospitals and clinics). Directs and aligns efficiency opportunities between: wholesaler contracts, technology, drug policy, medication safety, clinical information technology, and others that exist across the Company Health system between pharmacy leaders. Regularly interacts with and advises system and health ministry senior leadership on medication management and medication management efficiency opportunities. Serves as a pharmacy liaison to ministry-wide committees and other ad hoc groups to support clinical integration and to enable two-way communication on medication management integration opportunities and implementation initiatives. Qualifications
Pharmacist obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Masters Degree required and ten years or more experience in acute care pharmacy with 5 or more years of management experience in acute care setting. Doctorate (professional) PharmD highly preferred.
10 years experience in a management role in acute care pharmacy is required.
