UAB Medicine's Mission, Vision & Values can be found here: General Responsibilities: UAB is a 1200+ bed organization serving over 3000 daily patient meals and this position has the responsibility for overseeing 200+ employees. The Director will e stablish, direct and maintain the daily operations of all activities pertaining to Food and Nutrition Services patient meal and production services. This position will establish and maintain departmental programs, systems and procedures in compliance with federal, state and local regulations and UAB Hospital policies and goals. To plan, develop and implement services for effective utilization of resources and achieve departmental objectives. Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements and monitors expense and revenue budgets and monitors monthly variances. Recommends and approves capital expenditures as needed.
  • Oversees all personnel and development functions for the Food and Nutrition patient meal and production services leaders and staff.
  • Promotes, administers and measures all quality improvement projects in assigned areas.
  • Ensures all patient satisfaction scores are consistent with established goals.
  • Supervise food and supply cost while ensuring quality metrics are met.
  • Monitor labor costs, employee engagement and maintain staffing plans at all times.
  • Plays an active role in leadership development for managers and supervisors throughout the department.
  • Oversees the onboarding process for new employees while ensuring continuing education for current staff.
  • Interacts and supports Nursing to ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Works with the Executive Chef to prepare new menu items, ensure proper ordering of supplies, and looking for innovative ways to improve efficiency.
  • Ensures department follows all organizational standards for diversity and inclusion efforts for both employees and patient meal services so that cultural differences are respected.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Bachelor s degree in Nutrition, Hospitality, Business Administration or Culinary Arts, and five (5) years of hospital/healthcare food service management experience at the Assistant Director or Director level is required. Master s Degree highly preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. ServeSafe Manager or equivalent is required. ServeSafe Trainer preferred but not required. RDN credential and licensure as a Registered Dietitian in the State of Alabama preferred but not required.
