Fiber Application Design EngineerSUMMARY:Expand your professional portfolio as the Fiber Application Design Engineer with our client in Leeds, AL. As the Fiber Application Design Engineer, you lead and participate in new product development for distribution communication market products. THIS IS A DIRECT-HIRE OPPORTUNITY.REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS in Mechanical, Materials, Industrial or Electrical Engineering
  • MS in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Knowledge of Fiber optic testing, installation and/or maintenance (preferred)
  • Experience with SAP Material Master and Engineering Change process (preferred)
  • Basic Knowledge of telecom outside plant construction practices and fiber network design (preferred)
  • 3+ years of prior Engineering work experience in Fiber optic Outside Plant (OSP) part/product design and/or OSP Application
  • Working Knowledge of fiber optic cable types, splicing techniques and connectivity
  • Experience in FEA, Solid Modeling (Autodesk Inventor or other 3D modeling tool), and rapid prototyping
  • Experience and knowledge in testing and/or product development
  • Experience and knowledge in DFMA
  • Strong mechanical design background using strength of materials
  • Strong experience working with test lab equipment
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skillsRESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Manage New Product Development projects in the area of Outside Plant (OSP) Telecom market connectors
    • Use 3D modeling software to design products and components
    • Input and track associate parts required for design and generate a BOM including dollar amounts
    • Work with marketing team members to assess customer feedback and align customer feedback to product development
    • Create, develop, and evaluate new product design concepts following ANSI, IEC, IEEE, and Telcordia standards
    • Conduct design for manufacturability events
    • Coordinate and perform experiments to test and verify product design
    • Track progress and action items for ongoing design projects
    • Document request for capital expenditures and present request to management
    • Participate in Kaizen improvement events
    • Assist in troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis for product enhancement
