Who We Are…

McWane Inc. has a newly created division, McWane Plant and Industrial (MPI). This new division, based in Birmingham, AL, combines all Plant and Industrial Products in a single customer-focused package. We offer comprehensive solutions through an experienced team of professionals specifically focused on these two special markets. Our Mission is to be the Plant and Industrial supplier who is “easiest to do business with”.  We will make it easier to engineer, specify, and order components for plants.  We will provide greater support for smoother delivery, cost-effective installation, and start-up. Most importantly, we will build strong relationships with design engineers, contractors, plant operations teams and project owners to assure we are their first-choice supplier for both new construction and future upgrades. At MPI, you will be part of a fast-paced, collaborative, start up where you can see, firsthand, how your work translates into positive results.

Product Engineer/Designer

Directly reports to

Engineer Product Manager

 

Essential Functions

  • Proven success in product design of mechanical products such as valves, pumps, or piping.
  • CAD software experience is necessary, preferred previous experience in, Solid works, Inventor or AutoCAD packages.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings, Imperial or Metric standards.
  • Attention to detail in translating customer requirements in technical inputs and outputs.
  • Ability to read and understand customer specifications.
  • Ability to create 3D models, manipulate assemblies and create detailed drawings to be utilized in Laser, Waterjet, and brake press applications.
  • Experience in carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other alloys utilized for the manufacture of welded subassemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret industry standards AWWA, ASTM, AIS, NACE, UL/FM, ASME, ISO, AWS, Etc.
  • Experience with certified weld assembly requirements and the ability to incorporate best practices into design outputs.
  • Ability to evaluate and refine existing product designs and materials from a product engineering perspective (technical design, material selection, product performance).
  • Water infrastructure products and valve design and understanding a plus.
  • Knowledge of manual and electrical actuation devices for the operation of valves.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement processes.
  • Position responsibilities and duties may change over time.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering Field, Mechanical Engineering preferred with 5 years relevant experience.

OR

  • Minimum two (2) year technical degree plus eight (8) years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience in design and / or manufacturing of mechanical engineered products.
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years related engineering experience in the waterworks industry.
  • FEA experience a plus.

Position Requirements

  • California candidates must be open to relocating to Birmingham, AL at future date.
  • Standing and sitting for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to meet and adhere physical requirements included in traveling various MPI locations with appropriate PPE.
  • Must have valid driver license and be eligible for auto insurance coverage.
  • Some (air/car) travel based on business needs to manufacturing sites.
