Job Description:

Alabama Power Company is currently accepting applications for a Meeting & Event Services Specialist. This position is responsible for consulting with clients and coordinating services in the planning and execution of events and meetings, with an emphasis on customer service and guest experience. This may include all the logistics of assembling attendees at a host location and providing them with programming, housing, food and beverage, printed material, and teambuilding. In addition, this position will negotiate with vendors for the best possible price and manage contractual disciplines related to conference services, with a focus on overall savings to both the client group and the company. This position reports to the Team Leader of Meeting & Events Services. MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate the planning and execution of events and meetings for Southern Company Consult with clients to evaluate budget, scope, format and other logistical needs Negotiate and manage all supplier contracts and arrangements, including food/beverage, entertainment, external speakers, transportation, teambuilding, gifts, housing, production and event technology Build and maintain vendor relationships Manage all activities at site location during the event, including providing work direction to site coordinators Maintain the data-tracking tools associated with reservations, attendee confirmations and housing In order to meet deadlines and the needs of client events, the position requires flexible work hours, including nights and weekends CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS: Education High school diploma or equivalent is required Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Minimum 1-2 years full-time meeting and event planning experience required, preferably with previous hotel, corporate, or association experience Proven customer service experience Proven organizational, project management and time management skills General knowledge of business practices associated with procurement, such as budgeting, logistics coordination and contract/vendor management Strong analytical and negotiation skills Proficient computer skills (MS Office applications required, experience with online registration systems like Swoogo or Cvent preferred) Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) Excellent interpersonal skills Must be able to work efficiently with minimum supervision to make decisions and anticipate steps Behaviors Models all aspects of Our Values (Safety First, Unquestionable Trust, Superior Performance, Total Commitment) Able to work with all levels of management Demonstrates a positive attitude and a commitment to providing excellent customer service Ability to work as a proactive team member Disciplined and adaptable Alabama Power provides the valuable combination of competitive prices, reliable electricity supply and unparalleled service to 1.4 million homes, businesses and industries in the southern two-thirds of Alabama.
