Job Description:

B.L. Harbert International is seeking a Buyer to work with our International Group in Birmingham, Alabama. Candidate's ability to understand construction materials and specifications are vital. The Buyer will be responsible for supporting project sites from the bid phase through the close-out of the project. Applicants would work directly for the Purchasing Manager, and with BLHI project staff, client representatives and vendors to provide communication and support to project sites.

*Responsibilities: *

- Ensure the cost of products purchased is within the budget

- Review and prioritize requisitions

- Monitor vendor compliance with all terms and conditions of the Purchase Order

- Manage supplier relationships in order to meet internal business requirements & corporate initiatives including the evaluation of processes between procurement and suppliers

- Organize all documentation in accordance with proposals and purchases

- Monitor shipments for on time delivery

- Research and evaluate suppliers

- Maintain daily communication with job site personnel

*Requirements: *

- US Citizen

- Ability to obtain and maintain a clearance through the US Government

- High level of construction material knowledge

- Proficient computer skills (ERP, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.)

- Minimum of 5 years' experience in Construction Industry purchasing

*Preferences: *

- Undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Distribution, Construction Management, Building Science, Building Construction, or similar curriculum

- Experience working with large scale projects, in excess of $100m in value

*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: *

- Good problem solver

- Must possess the ability to interpret client specifications as they pertain to crafting purchase order agreements

- Knowledge or construction terminology and processes

- Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments

*Physical Demands: *

To perform the duties of this job, the employee must:

- Have the ability to repetitively use hands to grasp, reach above and below with arms, and work overhead

- Have the ability to stoop, bend, walk, kneel, crouch and crawl

- Have the ability to lift, carry and/or move up to 25 lbs. of weight in the form of paper, boxes, files, etc.

- Have the ability to sit for extended periods with occasional standing required

- Possess the manual dexterity to operate office equipment, filing, and perform specialized skills

- Possess a high degree of concentration necessary in a busy office environment

- Must be able to work in an office environment

- Must have flexibility with hours in order to better accommodate business needs
