Safety Specialist Job Description
Department: Corporate
Location: Birmingham
Reports to: Corporate EHS Director
FLSA Status: Full -Time, Exempt
Primary Schedule: M-F, Extensive traveling may be required
The Safety Specialist position will actively engage with all levels of the business through on-site safety visits. The person in this position must be able to demonstrate that he/she is details oriented, analytical, and receptive to actively learning while teaching. This individual must be customer service focused and able to build strong relationships with all employees. The successful candidate must be able to collaborate on a team and work independently. Extensive travel will be required to fulfill the duties of this role.

  • Build strong relationships with all our employees by having on-site safety visits at all our branches.
  • Conduct safety inspections at branches and work sites. Investigate all safety incidents, document findings, and communicate appropriately. Track completion of open action items to ensure safety hazards are eliminated.
  • Attend Branch Safety Meetings. Serve as a consultant and resource to all employees and divisions with safety issues.
  • Conduct MSHA training.
  • Train employees on a wide range of safety topics.
  • Assist with development, implementing and communication of safety programs and processes.
  • Be available for emergency response to incidents/accidents that may occur. Investigate and gather information to be included in reports as required. Assist leadership with completion of investigations and root cause analysis of incidents that occur.
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
