MAINTENANCE SCHEDULER/DISPATCHER

Job Description:

The primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.
Under minimal supervision, incumbent will be responsible for assisting the maintenance team with alerting maintenance employees of fire alarms, and other issues within the system, as well as assisting with maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing monitoring devices.

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Alerting the appropriate maintenance employee/supervisor when trouble, supervisory, or fire alarms are triggered in the system during both regular and nightshift/weekend hours.
  • Ensuring that trouble alarms are communicated and addressed immediately.
  • Notifying maintenance, including supervisor, immediately of any fire alarms, and ensuring fire alarms are dispatched by call-center within the provided time to the Fire Department, UAB Police, and through the UAB Paging System.
  • Assisting maintenance crew with locating alarms within the physical buildings based on schematics and device address.
  • Enabling/disabling devices per electrician's request for testing, construction, etc.
  • Notifying UAB Police before/after testing buildings.
  • Announcing building-specific fire alarm testing using UAB's overhead paging system.
  • Documenting all fire alarms, and all other records, including trouble and supervisory alarms, that arise, any specific work done on any device or building, specific communications regarding work throughout the facility, such as generator testing, HVAC call-outs, etc.
  • Notifying the on-call or on-site supervisor immediately of any medical gas alarms.
    Work Schedule: Will be determined, based on the needs of the department.

    Starting Hourly Pay Range: $15.00 - $20.50 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications)
    High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience required. Ability to type thirty (30) WPM required.

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS:
    Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession a valid driver's license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

    • Prioritization skills Served/serves in an administrative role, assisting high-level position titles.
    • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills, which can be used with people of various backgrounds, cultures, experience, and education level.
    • Ability to multi-task in fast paced environment and handle confidential information.
    • Must be committed to a positive customer service philosophy.
    • Must be detail oriented, highly organized and self-directed/self-motivated.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • Exhibit flexibility, and cope effectively in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment.
      PERSONAL: Must be able to possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform tasks requiring sitting and staring at a computer screen for extended periods of time, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, and extensive walking significant distances between and within buildings in the Hospital.
